2022-23 Undergraduate Catalog

NUR 444 Medical Surgical Nursing III

This course builds upon the knowledge and skills mastered in previous nursing courses. Knowledge of the relationship among evidence, theory, quality, cost effectiveness and nursing care continues to grow. Students are expected to collaborate with members of the healthcare team to plan and implement cost effective, safe interventions in caring for patients as well as evaluate patient responses to selected interventions in caring for adult and elderly patients. Special emphasis is placed on patients that are critically ill. This course includes field experiences in the community and acute care facilities (critical care, step down, telemetry units) for advancing the conceptualization of the role of the nurse as leader, advocate, and direct caregiver in caring for adult patients across the lifespan. Four hours lecture and three hours clinical/simulation lab.
