MUS 302 Hymnology

This study of the development of the art of hymn writing from the days of the early church to the present focuses on the musical, poetic, and theological elements of hymns; historical periods of hymnology; major authors, composers, texts, tunes and the use of hymns in modern worship services. Prerequisite: MUS 231, 233, or 235 or permission of the instructor. Spring, even-numbered years.
